ÜNI Academy is a micro-school for 10 select students with a tailored two-year program (Grade 7 and Grade 8) focused on mathematics and sciences. Our curriculum bridges the gap between early education and the more abstract reasoning needed for high school and post-secondary education.

Why focus on mathematics and science? Not just because they’re useful—but because they’re beautiful. People rarely fall in love with these subjects for their applications. They’re drawn in by the wonder, the thrill of discovery, and the elegance of ideas. Sadly, that joy is too often buried under lifeless lessons and rote memorization.

Through daily one-on-one instruction and collaborative projects, our students develop true mastery and deep understanding. They learn to think critically rather than follow procedures. They connect ideas across disciplines, apply knowledge with confidence, and rediscover the joy of learning.

Our program is built on the principle that learning should be structured, rigorous, and conceptually rich. We prepare students for the intellectual and emotional leap from tactile, guided learning to independent, abstract reasoning. Our students connect the “hows” they’ve learned in elementary school with the “whys” behind them—bridging concrete experiences with deeper insight.

We believe that middle school should not be a time of drift or academic stagnation. Instead, it is a pivotal period to solidify understanding, build academic maturity, and unlock each student’s full potential.

While we are not affiliated with branded education systems like AP or IB, our choice is intentional. We are driven by a singular focus: to cultivate genuine understanding that lasts. At ÜNI Academy, we don't rely on standardized packages or scripted curricula. Instead, we create an environment where students engage deeply with concepts, ask real questions, and develop the tools to think independently—long after they’ve left the classroom.
Why Small Group Socialization Matters
Over the last half-century, face-to-face socializing among young people has plummeted. In the late 1970s, more than half of U.S. 12th-graders saw friends in person nearly every day; by 2017, that number had dropped to just 28% of that. From 2003 to 2023, average daily “alone time” surged by 20%, while time spent socially engaged fell by 50%. And this isn’t due to a lack of opportunity—these declines have occurred even as schools, cities, and offices have grown more crowded.

Casual hallway greetings and lunch-period chatter are not enough to forge the friendships that shape a life. At ÜNI Academy, we design tasks—projects, debates, field outings—that demand real cooperation, active listening, and shared discovery. Whether working side-by-side on an experiment or walking and reflecting on a complex problem, our students form bonds rooted in vulnerability and achievement. Here, every interaction is a chance to build a confident, empathic, and intellectually curious community.

We refuse to let meaningful relationships become collateral damage. By limiting enrolment to just 10 students—and building every day around one-on-one mentorship and intentional group work—we ensure that each child is not just a face in the crowd, but a vital part of a close-knit learning community.
Research shows that even a few close friendships dramatically reduce loneliness, strengthen emotional resilience, and promote long-term well-being. Our students collaborate on difficult problems, wrestle with abstract concepts, and support one another every step of the way. In doing so, they build not only knowledge—but trust, empathy, and lasting friendship.

One-on-One Instruction
Every student receives dedicated one-on-one attention, ensuring their learning path is continuously supported. This personalized approach extends into mentorship, where we act as guides, helping students navigate their educational journey with confidence.

We reject artificial simplifications. Students explore subjects in their full depth, developing a structured and intuitive understanding that empowers them to tackle complex problems with confidence.

Learning is not dictated by time spent in a seat. Students learn at their pace and advance from one topic to the next only when they have truly grasped the concepts, ensuring that no learning gaps are carried forward.

Tuition-back Guarantee
Should a student not demonstrate meaningful progress in core areas, then we will refund that year’s tuition in full. This policy reflects our confidence in our approach to education.
Personalized Vacation Time
Instead of PA/PD Days each student is allotted 10 days off during the academic year, to be scheduled at their family's discretion. While not mandatory to take these days off, we recommend that students use this time to rest and engage in some family activities.
Embrace Deep Learning
At ÜNI Academy, you’re not just enrolling in another middle-school program—you’re choosing to embrace two years of truly exceptional learning—our curriculum extends far beyond standard public and private offerings. Our focused program on mathematics and sciences covers more material, in greater depth, weaving together advanced concepts. We ensure that each student achieves a genuine, deep understanding of these topics and gains the ability to extrapolate and apply their knowledge to new challenges.

This level of rigour and breadth demands concentrated time and individualized focus. Consequently, certain experiences—formal team sports, structured PE classes, music ensembles, or drama productions—shift “off-campus” into extracurricular life. This choice in no way reflects a lack of appreciation for these fields; on the contrary, we believe such activities are of great value. Rather, it is an unavoidable consequence of the depth and volume of material we cover in just two years. We enthusiastically encourage families to pursue athletics and the arts through community clubs, studios, and local organizations, where students benefit from specialized coaches, dedicated facilities, and larger peer groups.

By joining ÜNI Academy, students and families make a conscious decision to commit to a focused, two-year journey—planting seeds of knowledge now so they can reap the rewards of confidence, mastery, and personal growth later. Together, we’ll cultivate intellectual strength, social skills, and lifelong curiosity.

It’s only natural to ask: “After two years of focused, concept-driven study, what will my child do in high school?” Rather than feeling bored or unchallenged, ÜNI graduates step into the next phase with an abundance of both time and intellectual tools. Here’s how:
​Self-Directed Exploration
By the end of Grade 8, our students have mastered not only a vast body of knowledge in math and science, but also the habits of mind required to learn anything new. They know how to formulate questions, plan a research path, evaluate sources, and communicate findings. When they encounter a fascinating topic—whether in history, biology, or computer science—they can dive in immediately, independently, and with confidence.

Freedom to Pursue Passions
Because they’ve already built a rock-solid foundation in core subjects, ÜNI graduates can use their extra time and energy to excel in other domains. Whether that means joining their high school’s soccer team, taking private music lessons, auditioning for drama productions, or volunteering on community projects, they won’t feel compelled to “catch up” in math or science. Instead, they’ll be free to specialize, deepen existing talents, or discover entirely new interests.

Our alumni don’t coast—they’re too curious for that. They move from passive receivers of information to active contributors in every class. When faced with advanced high-school topics, they bring unique perspectives born of their deeper understanding; when they hit a challenge, they fall back on the problem-solving frameworks and research skills they’ve honed at ÜNI.
